The Editorial Board of the BSRCCharles Gibson, Chair Co-Editors From 1997 - 2003, Howard Francis Humphreys was Vice-Principal of Stann Creek Ecumenical College. When the Junior College Division of that institution was separated from the High School in September 2003, he became Principal of the High School, a post he holds at present. Those nine years of administrative work were preceded by a long career of secondary school teaching, commencing at Stann Creek High School in 1971. While most of his teaching experience was at Ecumenical College, he also taught at Pallotti High School (1976-79; Head of the History and Geography Dept.); St. John’s College (1988-89, History, on internship from Belize Teachers’ College from which he earned a Diploma in Secondary Education in 1990); Belize Technical College Sixth Form (1988-89; part-time lecturer in Belizean Studies); and at Sandalwood Model High School, Jacksonville, Fl. (Sept-Dec. 2003, History, Excel 1/Internship requirement of the BA Degree in Education at the University of North Florida). Mr. Humphreys was the recipient of a 1992 USAID scholarship which enabled him to successfully pursue a BA Degree in education at UNF. Apart from his teaching career, Mr. Humphreys has co-authored, with Dr. Peter Ashdown, “Caribbean Revision History for CXC”, a text for secondary school students. Several of his articles on Belizean History have been published in various journals. He was also an Examiner in Caribbean History for the CXC (1988-2003); is a member of the Editorial Board of “Belizean Studies”; and an active member of Belize Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (BAPSS). Myrna Manzanares is an educator, counselor, writer, poet , Human development and cultural trainer, and a Professional Story teller. She is also a Social and Human Rights Activitist. Lawrence Vernon was born on May 19, 1937, in Belize City, Belize. He holds the Associate of the (British) Library Association (ALA). He is a career librarian, employed with the Belize National Library Service from 1956 to 1992. He served as Chief Librarian between 1978 and 1992. Upon retirement in 1992, he became employed with the University College of Belize (UCB), holding the post of Library Director from 1993 to 1996, and Associate Librarian from 1996 to 2003. In 2003, he resigned to take up his present position as Principal Librarian at the Belize National Library Service. His interests include writing short stories, some of which have been published in Among My Souvenirs and Snapshots of Belize. His research interests are on the history of political parties in Belize, and Belize’s cultural groups. Andrew S.T. Lopez, M.Soc.Sc., P.D. Andrew Lopez is a Lecturer in the Social Sciences (Sociology, Anthropology and Research Methods) at the University of Belize. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Santa Clara, California in 1983, a Master’s Degree from the University of Birmingham, England in 1987 and holds a P.D.( Professional Post-Graduate) Degree in Educational Administration from the Graduate School of Education at Fordham University in New York. Mr. Lopez was awarded the Witold Krassowski Award for exemplary research in Sociology/Anthropology from the University of Santa Clara and a graduate fellowship to pursue post-graduate studies at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. His professional experience includes teaching at the Junior College and University levels, consultancy and social science research for government agencies, educational administration and serving as co-editor of the Journal of Belizean Studies, the only scholarly social-science research journal in Belize. He has published 2 sociolinguistics works in the Journal of Belizean Studies and in SPEAReports 7, Fourth Annual studies on Belize Conference respectively. |
