This Lenten season, St. John’s College Junior College (SJCJC) undertook a remarkable initiative that transformed the act of reflection into a captivating form of art. In an inspiring collaboration with former student and talented artist Samir Habet, the Campus Ministry Department proudly unveiled a breathtaking series of hand-painted murals that vividly depict the 14 Stations of the Cross. Each mural serves not only as a visual representation of Christ’s journey but also as a powerful reminder of the themes of sacrifice, redemption, and hope that are central to the Lenten season. For Habet, the creative process involved in this project was much more than merely applying paint to canvas; it was a deeply personal act of meditation and spiritual exploration. As he meticulously crafted each mural, he immersed himself in the stories and emotions associated with each station, allowing himself to connect with the trials and tribulations faced by Christ. This journey of creation became a form of prayer for him, a way to express his faith and reflect on the significance of the events that the Stations of the Cross represent. The result of this artistic endeavor is a stunning display of faith which, invited students, faculty, and visitors alike to pause and reflect on the meaning of the Lenten season. Each mural is infused with vibrant colors and intricate details that draw the viewer in, encouraging them to contemplate the profound messages embedded within.
