ALUMNI NEWS News released to alumni and students of SJC. 1/8 Snyders Field Inauguration Today, St. John’s College officially inaugurated a newly rebuilt football field on its campus. The field had not been used for many years and required an extensive renovation process. But with major fundraising and lots of hard work, we dedicate the field one of the longest serving Jesuit priests by naming it Snyders Field. Fr. Bill Snyders has long been a proponent of educational quality at SJC. He hopes the field will serve to build camaraderie, sportsmanship, and healthy physical activity. With thousands of tickets in the barrel, the chances of winning one of the extravagant prizes were slim. But that didn't stop the onlookers from crossing their fingers and holding their breath. Everyone was also treated to some live music, provided by a mysteriously unnamed band of junior college students. Playing a mixture of alternative and pop rock, the band put on quite a show. Keep an eye out for them at future events. St. John's College was officially made a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in 2020. However, due to the pandemic, we had to pause our celebration of such a monumental event. Finally in 2023, SJC was able to host all members of the AJCU for a week of activities leading up to the Missioning Mass. At the Missioning Mass, Rev. Brian Christopher S.J., Mrs. Mirtha Peralta, President, and Mrs. Martha Guerra, Board Chair, signed the MOU between St. John's College and the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The Missioning of St. John's College is as follows: "The USA Central and Southern Province of the Society of Jesus affirms its sponsoprhip of St. John's College as an apostolate of the province and full member of the Jesuit School Network and the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities." The Celebrant of the Missioning Mass was Rev. Thomas Greene, S.J., Provincial. The Concelebrants were the Society of Jesus, Rev. Douglas Marcouiller, S.J., General Counselor and Regional Assistant for North America (Rome), and Rev. Brian Christopher, S.J., Jesuit Superior, Belize.
